Mlekpol is expanding its plants in Kolno and Zambrów. SEEN Technologie will prepare designs for modern wastewater treatment plants

30 September 2025

Dairy Cooperative Mlekpol, one of the largest dairy producers in Europe, consistently invests in the development of environmental infrastructure. In July and August of the current year, the Cooperative concluded agreements with SEEN Technologie for the preparation of comprehensive design and environmental documentation for modern wastewater treatment plants at its production facilities in Kolno and Zambrów. The implementation of these undertakings constitutes a significant stage in the process of further modernization of the plants, increasing their self-sufficiency, and ensuring full compliance with the applicable environmental standards.

Kolno Plant – Investment in Development and the Future

The Dairy Production Plant in Kolno, operating within the structure of Mlekpol since 1999, specializes in the production of ripened cheeses and premium products such as Senator, Jantar, Kolno Royal, Tylżycki, Salami, and the smoked Rolada Ustrzycka. The dynamic growth of production and the implementation of innovative cheesemaking processes necessitate investment in a wastewater treatment plant adapted to the increased scale of operations and rigorous environmental requirements.

The scope of the documentation includes, inter alia, the project information card, the water law survey, the environmental impact report, the construction design, and the technical design covering all relevant industries. The documentation will be completed within 14 months from the date of contract signature. The planned installation will be based on a multi-stage advanced technological process of a new generation of sludge treatment.

– The investment in Kolno is a natural stage of the plant’s development, which in recent years has acquired a modern LNG boiler house, a water treatment station, as well as product lines for poured cheeses and Mozzarella. The new treatment plant will strengthen the plant’s technological independence and create a solid foundation for further development  emphasizes Zbigniew Groszyk, Vice-President of the Management Board of Mlekpol

Zambrów Plant – Continuation of Modernization and Environmental Care

Under the agreements signed, the preparation of documentation has also been planned for a wastewater treatment plant at the Dairy Production Plant in Zambrów – one of Mlekpol’s key locations in the Podlasie region. This plant specializes in large-scale milk processing and constitutes a significant element of the Cooperative’s production chain.

As part of the investment, SEEN Technologie will prepare environmental and design documentation similar to that developed for the Kolno plant, but adapted to the specific characteristics of the wastewater, technological processes, and work organization in Zambrów. The installation will be designed as a system fully integrated with the plant’s existing infrastructure, and the solutions applied in wastewater treatment will ensure high efficiency in pollutant removal, operational flexibility, and compliance with both national and EU legal requirements.

A Shared Perspective of Development – Two Investments, One Goal

The conclusion of agreements with SEEN Technologie forms an integral part of Mlekpol’s development strategy, encompassing the simultaneous expansion of production capacity and environmental infrastructure.

– The implementation of projects for the plants in Kolno and Zambrów confirms that production growth should go hand in hand with environmental responsibility. Thanks to the treatment plants we design, the plants will gain not only a higher standard of wastewater treatment management but also tools enabling even more efficient and sustainable operations  emphasizes Dariusz Jasak, President of the Management Board of SEEN Technologie

The preparation of documentation involves a team of experienced engineers and technologists from SEEN Technologie’s Process Engineering Department, led by Dr. Eng. Bogusław Buczak. The team is responsible for selecting and integrating treatment technologies tailored to the specificities of the Kolno and Zambrów plants.

– In the case of dairy plants, it is crucial to take into account the actual wastewater load, its variability over time, and above all, the qualitative specificities of each plant, which, despite operating in the same sector, may differ significantly even among dairies producing a similar product range. Only on this basis can technologies be selected that ensure both effective treatment and stable operation of the installation  adds Dr. Eng. Bogusław Buczak, Proxy and Director of the Process Engineering Department at SEEN Technologie

Investments Embedded in Mlekpol’s Long-Term Strategy

The projects implemented in Kolno and Zambrów represent the next stage in the consistent modernization of Mlekpol’s plants and confirm the ongoing implementation of its sustainable development strategy. For years, the Cooperative has been investing in solutions reducing its environmental footprint – from efficient energy systems and sustainable water management to advanced wastewater treatment infrastructure. The planned undertakings will not only increase Mlekpol’s production potential but also strengthen its position as an industry leader operating in line with the highest environmental standards.
