SEEN Technologie and Paques launch pilot testing of ANAMMOX® technology in Poland
SEEN Technologie, the exclusive authorized partner and distributor of Paques solutions in Poland, has commenced pilot testing of the ANAMMOX® technology at a municipal wastewater treatment plant. The project focuses on evaluating the performance of the process for treating a mixture of municipal and industrial wastewater and represents another step in the development of advanced nitrogen removal technologies.
Increasing environmental requirements and the need to reduce operating costs are driving wastewater treatment plants to seek more efficient methods of nitrogen removal. Although ANAMMOX® technology has been successfully implemented worldwide for many years, every wastewater stream has unique characteristics. Therefore, before a full-scale installation is deployed, it is essential to verify the process under real operating conditions.
The objective of the project is to assess the effectiveness of the technology under such conditions and to collect the data necessary for the design and implementation of full-scale installations.
– An increasing number of wastewater treatment plants are now treating a combination of municipal and industrial wastewater, creating entirely new challenges for treatment technologies. Our goal is to provide solutions that effectively address these challenges. Together with Paques, we are conducting pilot tests of the ANAMMOX® technology to validate its performance and deliver solutions that provide the highest level of process efficiency to our customers – says Krzysztof Pacierpnik, Proxy and Director of Sales Department at SEEN Technologie.
ANAMMOX® is a biological nitrogen removal technology developed by Paques. It utilizes specialized anaerobic ammonium oxidation (ANAMMOX) bacteria belonging to the Planctomycetota phylum, which convert ammonium (NH₄⁺) and nitrite (NO₂⁻) directly into nitrogen gas (N₂) under anaerobic conditions (NH₄⁺ + NO₂⁻ → N₂ + 2H₂O).
Compared with conventional nitrogen removal methods, ANAMMOX® significantly reduces aeration energy demand, minimizes the production of excess sludge, and eliminates the need for external carbon dosing. As a result, it lowers operating costs while reducing the environmental footprint of wastewater treatment plants.
This project is another example of the long-standing cooperation between SEEN Technologie and Paques in implementing innovative technologies for the water and wastewater sector. As the project progresses, we will provide updates on the subsequent stages of the pilot tests and, where possible, share selected findings from the research.
